About & Data

Citizen Stat is an independent, data-driven transparency engine designed to make the fiscal health of nations and states accessible to the general public. Our mission is to break down complex government budgets, fiscal deficits, and public debt into simple, understandable metrics.

Data Sources & Methodology

The data presented on this platform is aggregated from officially published, publicly available documents. Our primary sources include:

India

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) โ€” Annual Publication: State Finances: A Study of Budgets
  • Union Budget Documents (Ministry of Finance, Government of India)
  • Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Reports
  • State Government Annual Budget Speeches and Documents

United States

  • US Treasury Department โ€” State and Local Government Finance Data
  • US Census Bureau โ€” Annual Survey of State Government Finances
  • National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO) โ€” State Expenditure Reports
  • State Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFRs) / Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFRs)

The "Live Debt Clock" is a mathematical projection. It takes the officially budgeted annual fiscal deficit for the state, divides it by the seconds in a year, and projects the accumulation of debt in real-time. It does not represent live banking transactions or real-time borrowing by the government. It is an educational visualization tool designed to illustrate the scale of public deficit spending.
